The word appraise has two definitions: 

1. to scrutinize and assess something or someone.

2. to expertly estimate it's value.

I have always found myself fighting to achieve an elusive of state ideal self-expression. I am constantly experiencing an internal conflict in terms of the portrayal of my self image, my work, and in general, how I perform my individuality to the world. The way in which I am assessed by others is the way in which I place value on myself.

The images in this series are a violent, tactile expression of my own fight to achieve the perfect public performance – one that may not make a conventionally good impression, but much more importantly, will make a lasting one.
